Choosing an orthodontist that makes you feel comfortable, listens to your needs and concerns, and makes for an enjoyable experience is extremely important! No matter which treatment option you choose, at Moravec Orthodontics we promise the process will be friendly, patient-focused, and straightforward.
Researching potential orthodontists for you or your child is a key step. Look for a trained orthodontist who has ample experience. If you are an adult patient, make sure the orthodontist has practice and training in adult braces. Furthermore, if you are looking at treatment other than traditional braces or clear aligners—such as lingual braces—ensure the orthodontist has the needed technology for optimal results.
Reading online reviews, patient testimonials, and visiting the orthodontist’s website—personal or professional—will also serve to give you a better idea of what to expect. Is the orthodontist part of any organizations? Do they give back to charities or the community? Have other patients enjoyed their treatment process and happy with the results? These are all good questions to consider when choosing the right orthodontist.
Most of my patients find us in one of three ways—by referral, word of mouth, or the internet. In a previous blog post, I discussed how a patient does not need to be referred to us from a dentist. However, because dentists are often the primary contact for oral health needs, it’s very common for him or her to be the first one to notice that teeth are misaligned or a bite is off. Most dentists have a handful or orthodontists in their community that they are comfortable recommending patients to given experience and expertise.
No matter how our patients come to us, I have found that they generally want to know these four things before proceeding with treatment:
- What’s wrong?
- What do I need to do to correct it?
- How long is it going to take?
- How much is it going to cost?
Important aspects when choosing an orthodontist are ensuring your questions are answered in an informative and helpful manner, the staff (from the moment you walk into the office) is friendly and fun, and the treatment process fits your lifestyle. Remember: you or your child will be coming in for visits and adjustments every six to eight weeks—make sure it is a place you feel comfortable.
